Life in the Hostel
Our hostel is very central in Arusha in a nice neighbourhood, 5 minutes foot walk to the bus station, fruit stands, pharmacy and small restaurants, 10 minutes walking to a big European supermarket and 10 minutes with the bus to the city centre. There is also a gym (also courses like yoga etc), many swimming pools and restaurants or cafes in near neighbourhood around the hostel.
You will be in a shared room in your own big bed with Moskito net and bed material we will put you and also wash it every week. The rooms have cupboards and you share the bathroom (with warm water) and toilet with the other room.

Initial fee of: 150€ which includes
pre-arrival administration
Pick-up and Drop-off at the airport (Kilimandjaro or Arusha Airport)
Town orientation tour on your first day (getting a sim card, showing you how to pick money, showing you the transport vehicles and how to use them, the fruit markets and a big western supermarket and explaining you in a briefing how to survive in Tanzania)
Introduction to the project on day two: One of our workers will drive with you to the project and explain how you can get there yourself.)

Subsistence costs per week are: 120€ , including:
Volunteer work in the project

We cook for you Breakfast and Dinner from Monday to Friday with delicious African tea and coffee, bread with peanut butter, butter and jam and a special every day like pancakes, mandazi, eggs, guacamole with avocado or fruits. For dinner we serve a mixture of African and western dishes like spaghetti, rice and chapati.
The food is mostly vegetarian, if you have allergies or anything don’t hesitate to let us know, such that we can adapt the food. It’s even mostly vegan for those who want.
We really do this with love and all our hearts, you will live in our house with maximum 6 other people in a room with 4 to 6 people each room and enough space – so it’s very familiar and comfortable and not crowded and unknown as many other hostels here. If you have anything on your mind or want to ask something we will be there for you.
Also our location is very close to supermarkets and restaurants and a fresh fruit and vegetable market, so you can enjoy the tastiness of Africa!
Good to know:
We also offer a big private room with a big queensize bed, cupboard, table and private bathroom.
Price is 175€ a week
Payment information:
All payments made to tanzanian banc accounts will be cancelled by most european bancs.
Therefore all payments for Giving Hands will be made to our German banc account and in Euro.
After applying, you pay the initial fee of 150€ as a deposit. The rest of the money, you will pay 2 months before arriving.
Cancellation information:
You pay the deposit of 150€ right after applying, such that we can reserve your spot in our hostel and the volunteering projects. Therefore, if you cancel later, we cant give that back.
The weekly payment for the hostel, which you pay 2 months before, if you cancel up to those 2 months before arrival, you will get 50% of the money back.
From the day you arrive in the hostel, of course, there wont be any refund, we hope for your understanding
